My family has been involved in film-making since the end of the 19th century. My great uncle Alfie knew William Friese-Greene, and Thomas Edison, and worked with Robert Paul, and after a brief period in England emigrated to Denmark where he pioneered the Danish Kinema - shooting film during the day, and projecting it that evening. ( see this section on my website for the whole story ). My father followed in his footsteps and had a film production company in London specialising in live animation and special effects, often building his own cameras and studio rigs (Gerry Anderson, the puppet animator, was his protege, and he did a lot of work for Val Guest the movie producer/director). He wrote several books on the subject for home enthusiasts ( Here's one of them still available on Amazon). I did not follow him, but rather chose a scientific/engineering career; however, amateur movie-making and photography was my dominant hobby.
