Need some help 3d modeling a custom 8mm holder for easy35

Hi Everyone!

As an almost final step in my at-home setup, I am looking for someone to help me with STL modeling to 3D print a part for my scanner.

I need a part that would fit as a film holder in the easy35, but that would carry 8mm film. All the external dimensions should be the same as the other holders as pictured below, but would fit 8mm film!

Could anyone on here help me! Or point me in the direction of someone who can?

Thanks!

Grace

Hi Grace.

I might be making assumptions, but if this is to act as a film gate that the film slides over or through, it should have a very smooth surface to avoid damaging the film. Most 3D printers don’t print that smooth surfaces, but some get around it by then covering the surface with tape or similar, or use something other than 3D printed plastic with a smooth surface.
Sorry if this did not help you in your quest.

Hi @Grace_Richardson. I agree with @ChrisCph that it may be difficult to make something that holds the film down, and there is not much space in the slot to being with.

May I ask, have you considered alternatives to the easy35? that is an expensive unit, and you may be able to get something simpler that gives you an open setup… here is an example found in printables (not the 8mm dimensions, just an illustration).

Do you have access to a 3D printer? and a caliper? If you can send the exact dimensions of the picture you posted, particularly the thickness, I can make you a model to try… maybe a curved one open at the top?
