As I am curious of all novelty I tried this new library !
My first remarks are:
- The library is based on all the complex concepts of libcamera (camera, configuration, controls, streams, requests, …) we are far from the simplicity of Picamera, one class, its attributes and its methods.
- It seems that in our case of figure, a loop of capture as fast as possible of frames in full or binned mode the performances i.e. the effective fps are really less good. It is the principle of libcamera that leads to this, restricted role for the GPU and processing by the CPU, even the JPEG encoding! It seems that to have similar and acceptable performances it will be necessary a hardware much more powerful a PI4 with largely of memory.
- On the other hand the control of the camera settings is good, I was able to reproduce my HDR processing correctly.
